Garlic Bread Pepperoni Nuggets

- 1/2 Cup Of Softened Butter
- 3-4 Cloves Of Minced Garlic
- 1 Tablespoon Of Salt
- 2 Cups Of Pepperoni Slices
- 2 Cups Of Shredded Mozzarella Cheese
- Optional: Italian Seasoning Or Dried Oregano For Extra Flavor
- Optional: Fresh parsley
Homemade Marinara
Ingredients
- 1 can (28 ounces) of crushed tomatoes or tomato puree
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil or a handful of fresh basil leaves, torn
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Pinch of sugar (optional, to balance acidity)
- Red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)
Prepare
Preheat Your Oven: Crank it up to about 180°C (350°F), or if you’re using a toaster oven, just set it to toast mode.
Garlic Butter Mixture:
In a bowl, mix the softened butter, minced garlic, a pinch of salt, and if you’re feeling fancy, some chopped parsley. Stir it until it looks like you’ve captured the essence of an Italian kitchen in a bowl.
Prep Your Bread:
Slice your mini rolls or baguette into bite-sized pieces if they aren’t already.
Spread each piece generously with your garlic butter mix. Don’t be shy; this is where the magic happens.
Assemble the Nuggets:
Place a piece of pepperoni on the inside or outside of each buttered slice. If you’ve got mini pepperoni, one will do. If not, a quarter slice works great.
Sprinkle a good amount of mozzarella on top of the pepperoni. You want it to look like a cheesy snowcap.
Season:
If you’ve got Italian seasoning or oregano, give a light dusting over the cheese for that herby touch.
Bake
Arrange your nuggets on a baking tray lined with parchment paper or directly on the oven rack for crispier edges.
Pop them into the oven. Bake for about 10-15 minutes or until the cheese is bubbly and golden. Keep an eye on them; you want golden, not charcoal. While this is baking you can make the homemade marinara sauce.
Homemade Marinara Sauce
Sauté Aromatics:
Heat olive oil in a saucepan over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and chopped onion, sautéing until the onion is translucent.
Add Tomatoes:
Pour in the crushed tomatoes or tomato puree.
Season:
Stir in the oregano, basil, salt, pepper, and a pinch of sugar if using. If you like it spicy, add a pinch of red pepper flakes.
Simmer:
Reduce heat to low and let the sauce simmer for about 15-20 minutes. This helps the flavors to meld together. If using fresh basil, add it towards the end of cooking.
Adjust and Blend (Optional):
Taste the sauce and adjust seasoning if necessary. If you prefer a smoother sauce, you can use an immersion blender or carefully transfer to a blender to puree until smooth.
Serve
Allow the nuggets to cool slightly before serving to avoid burning your mouth.
You’re done! Enjoy your delicious nuggets with the tangy, rich marinara sauce!
Tips:
Storage: You can make the marinara sauce in advance; it stores well in the fridge for about a week or can be frozen for longer storage.
Consistency: If your marinara is too thick, thin it with a bit of water or stock. If too thin, let it simmer longer.
Freshness: Fresh ingredients can elevate your sauce, but dried herbs work well if that’s what you have on hand.
